Otto Kalb

Otto Kalb (born September 30, 1921 in Sondershausen ) is a former German politician ( CDU ). From 1954 to 1960 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Kalb, the son of an official, attended elementary school, secondary school and commercial school in Sondershausen. During the Second World War he did military service in the Wehrmacht from 1940 to 1945 .

After the war he worked as an accountant from 1945. In 1945 he became a member of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). From 1946 to 1948 he attended the financial school in Ilmenau . In 1946 he joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and was a member of the CDU district committee in Sondershausen from 1946 to 1950. At the same time he was from 1946 to 1950 city councilor and from 1947 to 1950 honorary city councilor in Sondershausen. He completed a degree in finance in 1950/51 at the German Administration Academy "Walter Ulbricht" in Forst Zinna as a financial economist. From 1951 to 1953 he was a member of the State Finance Directorate Thuringia and the Council of the Erfurt District . From 1952 he was a member of the CDU district committee in Erfurt and from 1954 to 1956 was a member of the main committee and the secretariat of the CDU party leadership. From January 1, 1954 he was head of the department of cadre policy and state organs of the CDU party leadership. He was appointed secretary of the Central Committee of Inquiry on April 13, 1954 at a meeting of the HV (successor to Gerhard Fischer).

In 1954 and 1958 he was elected to the People's Chamber. From 1954 he was secretary of the CDU parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the budget and finance committee. From 1958 he was also a member of the Oranienburg District Committee of the National Front of the GDR .

The last time he was mentioned in the GDR press was when he proposed Karl Burkert for the position of the new district chairman at a board meeting of the East Berlin CDU on May 12, 1960 on behalf of the party leadership . At a presidium meeting of the main board of the CDU on July 5, 1960, Gerald Götting discussed Otto Kalb's flight from the republic , which was planned to be replaced in the preparations for the 10th party congress of the CDU in June 1960.
