Otto Kind (born November 26, 1868 in Windhagen , † March 11, 1949 in Kotthausen near Gummersbach ) was a German politician ( DNVP ).

Live and act

Otto Kind was born as the youngest of nine children of the farmer, sheep farmer and trader Karl Kind and his wife Karoline Schmidt. After attending elementary school and high school in Gummersbach , Kind worked on his father's estate in Windhagen from 1884 to 1885. Then he completed a commercial apprenticeship in a sheet metal factory in Weidenau. At this time, through his encounter with the Siegerland revival movement, Kind discovered Christianity for himself, to which he remained closely connected until his death. When he started to work as a traveler for a company in 1887, he was able to demonstrate his sales talent for the first time.

From 1890 to 1892, Kind belonged to the 4th Guards Grenadier Regiment in Koblenz. There he developed a lifelong affinity for the military, and he also experienced a lasting monarchist character, which was documented, among other things, in the fact that, after 1918, Kind brought a Christmas tree every year to the exiled German Emperor Wilhelm II in Doorn, Holland .

In 1892, Kind took a job as a traveling salesman for a brush wholesaler in Dessau . From 1894 to 1901, together with one of his brothers, he organized the distribution of new items for grocery stores. For this purpose, he traveled almost continuously to the Reich and abroad.

From the autumn of 1901, Kind built up its own manufacturing company in Kotthausen. The company initially created grocery store furnishings and then moved on to manufacturing full shop fittings. Kind's company, which he ran for almost fifty years, increased the number of its employees from just 6 in 1901 to more than 400 by 1940. Later he added to the business by taking over his father's farm, which he used to supply his employees. In 1911 the child married Margarethe Borge. The marriage resulted in two sons and five daughters.

During the Weimar Republic , Kind was politically active in the German National People's Party (DNVP), which he joined in 1919. For the DNVP, Kind was busy as a promotional speaker. On January 3, 1931, Kind moved into the Reichstag in the replacement procedure for Ludwig Schwecht , who had resigned his mandate on December 21, 1930, in which he represented constituency 20 (Cologne-Aachen) until July 1932. He did not excel in parliament.

After 1933, Kind withdrew from politics. After the Second World War , Kind's company managed to survive the crisis-ridden post-war years and prosper again. Today Otto Kind AG is part of the Zech Group .
