Life

Otto Korff called Schmising came from the Westphalian aristocratic family Korff , whose branches belong to the oldest rural noble families in the Münsterland . Numerous well-known personalities have emerged from it. He was the son of the knight Heinrich Korff and his wife Wigburdis (Wibbecke) von Varendorff . She was an heir daughter. As a result, the Gogericht Warendorf, consisting of nine parishes, came into the possession of the Korff family and also meant strengthening their power in the Warendorf area. He was first mentioned in a document on October 16, 1324 as the cathedral canon of Münster . On September 1, 1327, the Pope gave the Abbot of Marienfeld Monastery the task of entrusting Otto with the Osnabrück prebende and the choir. His father shared the family property on January 2, 1334 with Otto and his siblings, the knights Heinrich and Everd. On March 29, 1339 he was named as Archdeacon of Warendorf. Bishop Florence appointed him to the council of trustees on April 27, 1368. He received on January 22, 1372 from Pope Gregory XI. a commitment to the deanery of the old cathedral in Münster . With this measure he also received the privilege to study at the Artistic and Medical Faculty of the University of Montpellier . On September 14, 1387 he was named as Archdeacon of Warendorf.
