Otto Ludwig von Syburg

Otto Ludwig von Syburg (* 1721 ; † May 20, 1788 in Karlsruhe ) was a royal Prussian major general .

He was the son of the Imperial Russian Colonel and commander of the Guard Regiment Otto Friedrich von Syburg and his wife Katharina Louise von Tettau from the Sandlacken family. His brother Friedrich Wilhelm von Syburg was also a Prussian major general.

Life

He entered Prussian service in 1740 and joined the “Schwedt Regiment on Foot” . There he was ensign in 1741, second lieutenant in 1742 and premier lieutenant in 1745. With the beginning of the Seven Years' War in 1757 he became staff captain and in 1759 captain. In 1767 he became a major and in 1775 a lieutenant colonel. In 1778 he became commander of the regiment and in 1779 a colonel. In 1781 he received his departure.

After leaving, he went to Karlsruhe to see the Margrave of Baden . There he was governor of the princes. King Friedrich Wilhelm II raised him to major general before he died unmarried on May 20, 1788.

From 1741 ( First Silesian War ) to 1759 he was involved in all battles of his regiment. During this time he was regimental adjutant of Landgrave Wilhelm VIII of Hesse-Kassel for several years . In 1759 he and his regiment were taken prisoner in Austria near Maxen . He was only released from captivity after the Treaty of Hubertusburg in 1763.
