Otto Oppermann

Otto Alexander Oppermann (born June 10, 1873 in Blasewitz , † December 28, 1946 in Wiesbaden ) was a German-Dutch medievalist .

Life

From 1892 Oppermann first studied law and later history in Bonn . During his studies he became a member of the Alemannia Bonn fraternity in 1892 , and later an honorary member in 1909. He received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1897 .

He worked for the archive service in Cologne and in 1900 became an employee of the Society for Rhenish History. In 1904 he went to Utrecht , where he worked as a lecturer for medieval history and historical auxiliary sciences. From 1909 he was associate professor and from 1918 full professor for medieval history at the University of Utrecht . His focus was on document criticism and the history of the Dutch area in the Middle Ages as well as fraternity history. He was a co-founder of the Society for Fraternity History Research . In 1944 he retired.
