Otto Schmidt (publisher)

Otto Schmidt (* 1866 in Drinsahl , Oberbergischer Kreis , † 1945 in Lahr in the Siebengebirge ) was a German publisher .

Otto Schmidt the Elder Ä. was the son of a teacher. After his mother's death and his father's illness, he grew up with his sister in Barmen. In 1888 he passed the clerk's examination at the Cologne Higher Regional Court . From 1892 he studied economics at the University of Rostock and received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig with the thesis watchmaking and watchmaking factories in Saxony under Professor Karl Bücher . In 1896 he became general secretary of the Konstanz Chamber of Commerce. In 1899 he founded the German Advertisers Association and in 1900 the advertisement expedition of the German Advertisers Association.

In 1905 the Centrale für GmbH Dr. Otto Schmidt, the forerunner of the Dr. Otto Schmidt .

Otto Schmidt married in 1900. Between 1901 and 1907 he had three daughters and one son ( Otto ). He died in 1945 during the fighting in the Siebengebirge in his country house in Lahr .
