Otto Timmermann (born November 19, 1916 in Travemünde ; † April 24, 2008 ) was a sexton , dialect poet and narrator in Travemünde. He was considered an original .

Life

Timmermann was born in 1916 in his parents' house at Kurgartenstrasse 49, where he lived until his death in 2008. After finishing school, he worked as a nurse in a gardening shop and housekeeper at “Hermannshöhe”, a restaurant on the Brodtener Ufer . This was followed by labor service, military training in Rendsburg , war deployment in Hamburg , Halberstadt and finally on the Oder . After being wounded and staying in a hospital, he worked as a sexton at the Protestant St. Lorenz Church in Travemünde - until the New Year's Eve in 1978.

Otto Timmermann had a son with his wife. He died in April 2008 at the age of 91.

Honor and books

The Timmermann fountain was inaugurated on the old market square in Travemünde in 2002. The bronze figure Otto Timmermann with a book in hand and two children on the edge of the fountain listening to his stories. The well in front of the old forge - today's parish hall of the St. Lorenz Church - represents a horse trough.

Timmermann's stories, some of which he received from his grandmother and father, have been published by Gemeinnütziger Verein Travemünde (GVT) in three books: "Otto Timmermann vertellt", "Otto Timmermann remembers" and "Otto Timmermann - Full of heads Thoughts...". Some of them are “op Platt” and some are written in High German. Otto Timmermann and publisher Wolfgang Prühs donated the proceeds exclusively for charitable and social purposes.

Otto Timmermann was an honorary member of the non-profit association in Travemünde , whose first citizen prize he was in 1990.
