Otto Waldis

Otto Waldis (born May 20, 1901 in Vienna ; born Otto Gluecksmann-Blumm ; † March 25, 1974 in Los Angeles ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Waldis began his theater career in Gablonz in 1920 . Other stage stations included Bohemian Krumau , Elberfeld , Beuthen and the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus . In Berlin he played at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm and at the Berlin Theater until 1933 . After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he emigrated to Eastern Europe and appeared at German stages in Czechoslovakia and Poland, most recently in Bielsko. In 1940 he fled to the USA, where he initially worked as a photographer, a profession that he was to pursue at irregular intervals even when he began his film career.

From 1947 he took on numerous, mostly minor roles in American films. He often played roles with a German background, including in Letter from a Unknown and The Judgment of Nuremberg . Waldis, who had already made film experiences in the 1930s, was also seen in two German productions in 1964. Four years after his last film, he died in Los Angeles in 1974 at the age of 72.
