Otto Wilhelm August Schreiber (also Otto WA Schreiber) (born September 6, 1884 in Malz (Oranienburg) , † October 14, 1967 in Bremen ) was a German shipowner .

biography

From 1898 to 1904 Schreiber was a seaman in the East German inland shipping . After his military service he drove again. In 1909 he acquired his first 345-ton inland vessel and in 1913 his first new building.

In 1923 he and his brother Franz founded an inland shipping company on the Weser in Bremen. The shipping company bought a ship, the Anna Luise , from a bankruptcy of the Weser shipping company , which operated on the Weser from Bremen to Bremerhaven from 1926 to 1929 . The city ​​of Bremen followed in 1929 and in 1932 the MS Friedrich , built in Hamburg in 1879 , which was the shipping company's workshop ship for years. Schreiber now carried out harbor tours. The ticket house was then at the Kaiserbrücke (today: Mayor Smidt Bridge ). From around 1935 the Otto WA Schreiber shipping company had its headquarters at Schlachte No. 36. In 1933 he had several saloon ships built by the Atlas works. In 1937 he leased the Weser ferry from Dedesdorf to Kleinensiel (today the Weser tunnel is there ). In 1937 the 460 ton passenger ship Oceana was built at the Atlas works in Bremen. During the Second World War , the company had to hand over its ships to the Navy as living and supply vehicles.

The shipping company had three similar ships of the same size, the Germany , the Weserstolz and the older Oceana , with which the liner shipping from Bremen to Bremerhaven was operated. In 1988 the 400 ton passenger ship Hanseat was built . After Schreiber's death, his widow continued to run the business, which has been known as Halöver - Schreiber Reederei since 2002 .
