from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto the Elder von Bergow auf Bilin and Seeberg (Czech Ota III. Starší z Bergova ; * around 1356, † around 1414 ) was a Bohemian nobleman of German descent. From 1388 to 1394 he was Burgrave of Prague and from 1391 Colonel Burgrave of the Kingdom of Bohemia .

Life

Von Bergow came from the noble family von Lobdeburg - Burgau , who settled in Bohemia in the 14th century, and was a son of Albert von Bergow ( Albertus de Bergaw , 1339-1371) on Bilin. Until 1383 he owned the Seeberg estate , which he sold to Thimo von Colditz . He was a high royal administrator and later a member of the association of nobles who opposed King Wenceslaus IV, founded on May 5, 1394 with the participation of Margrave Jobst of Moravia .

They attacked the king at his court in Beraun and took him prisoner. After the dispute had been settled in 1396, Otto was elected a member of the Royal Council. Without this advice, the king could no longer make any decisions. At the end of the 14th century he bought Bilin . In 1398 Otto von Bergow became the owner of the Trosky estate , and two years later he also owned Chlumetz .

Later he sat in a four-member committee founded on August 12, 1401, to which the king gave up his powers. When Wenzel was held captive for the second time, Otto took the side of Sigismund . After 1414 Otto von Bergow is no longer reported.

He was married to Margarethe von Žlunice and the father of Otto the Younger von Bergow ( Ota IV. Mladší z Bergova , 1399-1452).
