Ottokar Hahn

Ottokar Wilhelm Hahn (born November 4, 1934 in Berlin - † May 25, 2020 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Hahn passed his Abitur in Berlin in 1955 and then studied law and economics at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Cologne . He passed his legal state exams in Berlin in 1959 and 1963. In 1965 he received his doctorate in Cologne with the text The Taxation of Foundations . From 1963 to 1972 Hahn worked for the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau , then for the cabinet for economy and finance of the European Community. From 1980 to 1985 he worked as director for loans and investments for the EC Commission.

From 1985 to 1990 he was a member of the first cabinet of the Saarland Prime Minister Oskar Lafontaine as Minister for Federal Affairs and Special Tasks. He was also the representative of the Saarland at the federal government. Hahn then worked as a special advisor to the EU Commission (1990–1996) and, as ambassador, headed the European Union delegation in Russia (1996–1999). From 2002 to 2007 he worked for the business law firm White & Case , and since 2007 he has been a member of the law firm Salans LLP. Hahn was a member of the supervisory board at Vallourec & Mannesmann Deutschland GmbH. He was honorary chairman of the European Circle of Friends of the Julius Stern Institute in Berlin for the promotion of musically gifted children.

Hahn was a Protestant, married from 1964 and had three children.
