Outport
Outport is a remote coastal community in the eastern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
General
Outports are among the oldest European settlements in Canada . Many outports were settled by Portuguese , Spanish , French and English fishermen and whalers between the 16th and 19th centuries . They typically consist of anonymous wooden houses and fishermen's huts.
Inaccessibility and fishing bans continue to depopulate the outports, especially due to the urbanization of young people.
