The Overberg-Kolleg is an institution of the second educational path as a further education college for the attainment of the higher education entrance qualification . The school authority is the diocese of Münster .

The Overberg College was founded on October 1st, 1960 by Bishop Michael Keller . The first headmaster was Friedhelm Wacker. The college is named after Bernhard Heinrich Overberg , a Catholic theologian and educator. Initially it was housed in the buildings of the Collegium Ludgerianum at 45 Kardinal-von-Galen-Ring. In 1964 the college moved to Fliednerstrasse. With 37 teachers and around 350 students, it is one of the smaller colleges in Germany. School time is three years and is divided into six semesters . The subjects are taught:

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Latin
  • history
  • philosophy
  • sociology
  • National economy
  • Geography
  • mathematics
  • physics
  • chemistry
  • biology
  • Catholic religion
  • evangelical religion

All subjects are offered as basic courses and can therefore also be chosen as high school subjects. The subjects German, English, mathematics, physics, biology and history are offered as fixed advanced courses. The acquisition of the Abitur is linked to the learning of two foreign languages. In addition, a foreign language must be taken from the first to the sixth semester. The group structure provides for an introductory phase (1st and 2nd semester, one year) and a qualification phase (3rd to 6th semester, two years). Qualifications include the technical college entrance qualification (completion of the 2nd semester), the technical college entrance qualification for the school part (at the earliest with the completion of the 4th semester) and the general higher education entrance qualification (usually after the 6th semester). For financial support, parent- independent BAföG benefits, which do not have to be repaid after the semester, are possible.
