Overgrown is the second studio album by James Blake . It was released in early April 2013 and won the Mercury Music Prize . The tracks Retrograde and Overgrown were released as singles. It reached the top 20 in numerous national album charts.

Emergence

The release of his self-titled debut album in 2011 was followed by two EPs, Enough Thunder and Love What Happened Here . At the end of 2012 Blake presented pieces from the upcoming album live for the first time. On February 7th, Blake announced the release date of the album on Facebook .

For the album, Blake worked with producer Brian Eno , who also co-wrote the piece Digital Lion . He worked with rapper Robert "RZA" Diggs on Take a Fall for Me .

reception

The album received similarly positive reviews as Blakes' self-titled debut album. Based on 40 reviews, it received a Metascore of 82. The Guardian (5/5 points) and Allmusic (4.5 / 5 points) rate the album as particularly positive . His improved skills as a songwriter and his uniqueness are particularly emphasized. Rolling Stone, on the other hand, complains that the album lacks focus and rates it with 3.5 out of 5 points.

With the Mercury Music Prize , the album received one of the most important British music prizes in late 2013, after Blake had already been nominated for this prize for his debut album.
