The Oxford Tower is a high-rise office building in Warsaw . It was built in the 1970s as the seat of the commercial bank and the foreign trade headquarters, making it one of the few modern, first-generation high-rise buildings in the city.

history

Construction of the building lasted from 1975 to 1979. Built in the international style of a Swedish company Tower was the first of a planned group of high-rise buildings, the west of the Palace of Culture should arise ( center Zachodnie ) and so in conjunction with the eastward located Ściana Wschodnia the Should weaken the dominance of the Kulturpalast in the city skyline. As a result, the LIM center was only 150 meters away ; a further implementation of the original plan failed due to financial problems.

The Oxford Tower is located at 8 Tytusa Chałubińskiego Street in Warsaw's inner city district . The architects were Jerzy Skrzypczak, Halina Świergocka-Kaim and Wojciech Grzybowski. Initially, the building was named Intraco II (the Intraco I skyscraper was built a few years earlier in the north of the city). The skyscraper was later referred to as the Elektrim tower after the main user and its large logo on the facade, Elektrim SA .

In the 1988 film "Pan Kleks w kosmosie" by Krzysztof Gradowski, scenes from the fictional Stanisław Lem primary school were filmed in the building. In 2007 the First Property Group bought the skyscraper (more precisely: the owner, Oxford Polska ). In addition to Elektrim, tenants were or are large companies such as Allianz , Citibank , Kredyt Bank, Poczta Polska , Polferries, Pernod Ricard and various organizations such as state institutions (e.g. the Ministry for Regional Development). Today it is rated as a Class B office building. In addition to building a twin tower on the property, the current owner is also planning to renovate the Oxford Tower .

architecture

The building has a roof height of 139 meters, with superstructures it is 150 meters. It has 42 floors above ground and 193 parking spaces. The total usable area is around 70,000 square meters, the usable office area 42,000. The skyscraper is clad in white and blue.
