The former Köthen University of Education or Ratke Building is a listed building in the city of Köthen in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 70502 .

General

The building at Lohmannstraße 23 is the former college of education in Köthen. The building is a brick construction with a sober facade , this architectural style was characteristic of administration and school buildings at that time.

history

The building was constructed from 1885 to 1887. On November 1, 1887, the ceremonial inauguration of the Ducal Anhalt State Seminar for Teacher Training took place. Since then, teacher training has taken place in Köthen in the field of natural science subjects. Over the years, the institution that used the building has been repurposed and renamed several times. From 1920 to 1936 the institution was called the Deutsche Oberschule , from 1950 to 1963 it functioned as an institute for teacher training , from 1963 as a “ pedagogical institute ”, from 1974 as a pedagogical university. In 1974, in honor of the didactic and pedagogue Wolfgang Ratke , the institution was named the University of Education Wolfgang Ratke . In 1988, it was merged with the PH Halle to form the Halle-Köthen University of Education "NK Krupskaja" , which only existed for two years. In 1991 the institution abandoned its name and has since been called the Halle-Köthen University of Education . In the same year the university hosted the international reform pedagogy conference.

The institute for school pedagogy and elementary school didactics of the University of Education "Wolfgang Ratke", then the Halle-Köthen University of Education, which existed from 1970 to 1992, has been an institute of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg since 1993 . The institute was finally dissolved in 1997 and the training of pedagogues in the city of Köthen was discontinued. Since then, the building has been part of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences .
