The Pöltingerhof is a listed building in the Rathausgasse of Pulkau in Lower Austria .

history

Originally there was a monastery house on the east side of Rathausgasse between Rathausplatz and Hauptplatz, which belonged to the Cistercian nuns who lived in Altmelon and later in Sankt Bernhard bei Horn . In 1586 this monastery was closed. It served as a residence for Petrus de Pulkau, a teacher at the University of Vienna.

The monastery was taken over by the canons from Sankt Pölten , who had been wealthy near Pulkau since 1025 and had lived here since 1322 . Despite the abolition of the canon monastery in Sankt Pölten in 1784, the building, now known as the Pöltingerhof, in the vicinity of which a pouring box had meanwhile been built, remained the property of the canons until 1836. The kk religious fund followed as owner until 1846 and then until 1856 Count Karl von Strachwitz from Retz . In 1857 the Göttweig Abbey acquired the building complex, which was acquired by the Pulkau community in 1859.

On the journey from Prague to Vienna in 1712, the Lower Austrian estates paid homage to Emperor Charles VI. after his coronation.

Today the Pöltingerhof is used as a cultural center.

barracks

In 1808 the Pöltingerhof, the Michaelskirche and the Schüttkasten of the vicarage were used as a hospital because typhus broke out among the Austrian soldiers billeted in Pulkau . The term “barracks” for the Pöltingerhof, which is rarely used today, comes from this time.

description

The former Sankt Pöltner Stiftshof is a two-storey building with a gable roof , which was erected after a fire in 1709 over the core building from the 16th and 17th centuries. The baroque facade structure is attributed to Jakob Prandtauer .

The courtyard side has a vaulted arcade from the 17th century on the ground floor, which is supported by squat pillars. The baroque courtyard portal from the beginning of the 18th century was designed with a profiled and recessed round arch on exhibited scroll templates and is attributed to Matthias Steinl .

On the first floor there are rooms with stucco ceilings with floral decor from the beginning of the 18th century as well as the so-called imperial room, which is also decorated with stucco . These include relief depictions of the estates' homage to Emperor Charles VI. and heraldic cartouche with the double eagle.

The former Schüttkasten, which was built in the 17th century and converted into an official building in the fourth quarter of the 19th century, is attached to the courtyard of the Pöltingerhof, which is also a listed building, as is the Chronos fragment in the courtyard.
