Pürten is a parish village , part of Waldkraiburg and a district in the Upper Bavarian district of Mühldorf am Inn . The place is known for its parish and pilgrimage church of St. Mary of the Assumption .

geography

Pürten is divided into an upper (upper village, with parish and pilgrimage church) and a lower village (lower village) on the edge of a lower inner terrace .

history

In 1050 the first documentary mention of Pürten took place in an exchange contract between Chadalhoch III. and his wife Irmingardis with Archbishop Baldwin of Salzburg . From 1177 to 1803 Pürten was an incorporated parish of the Augustinian Canons of Au am Inn . From the 14th century to 1800 it was the destination of an important Marian pilgrimage with a pilgrimage cult that is unique in Europe with a healing book of the blessed Alta von Pürten (Countess Irmingard von Pürten). The Catholic parish and pilgrimage church of St. Mary's Assumption is an unplastered tuff square building with a polygonal choir, adjoining grace chapel to the south and a west tower. The new Gothic building in the 15th century was built including the Romanesque south side and the lower tower floors. The Chapel of Mercy was redesigned in 1628 and the church building was redesigned in Baroque style in 1757. In 1805 the "royal" parish of Pürten was established. With the municipal edict of 1818, Pürten became an independent municipality, which was incorporated into Waldkraiburg on January 1, 1974.
