Paul G. Comba

Paul G. Comba (* 1926 in Tunis ; † April 5, 2017 ) was an Italian-American astronomer . He discovered (as of April 2017) 682 asteroids and thus took place 27 in the list of asteroid discoverers.

At the age of 20 he went to the California Institute of Technology on a scholarship in 1946 , where he received his doctorate in mathematics in 1951 with Frederic Bohnenblust . After receiving his doctorate, he taught mathematics at the University of Hawaii until 1960. He then moved to IBM as a software developer . He developed a computer program for the comba multiplication named after him and received the Leslie C. Peltier Prize in 2003 for his services to astronomy. He then directed the Prescott Observatory in Arizona .

He is the author of the Astronomical League's Asteroid Club Observing Guide , and a member of the Prescott Astronomy Club .

The asteroid (7636) Comba was named after him.
