Palanisamy Sathasivam ( Tamil : ப. சதாசிவம், born April 27, 1949 in the Erode District , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian lawyer. From July 19, 2013 to April 26, 2014, he was the “Chief Justice of India” (Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of India ). From August 31, 2014 to September 6, 2019 he was governor of Kerala , he was replaced by Arif Mohammad Khan .

Life

Sathasivam was born into a family of peasants near the city of Bhavani . He studied law at Government Law College in Chennai . His legal career began in 1973 as a lawyer in Madras , and in 1996 he was appointed judge of the Madras High Court . In 2007 he moved to Chandigarh , where he was appointed judge at the Punjab and Haryana High Court . In the same year he became a judge on the Supreme Court of India. He succeeded Altamas Kabir to the head of this court on July 19, 2013 and remained in that position until he was 65. The office was then taken over by Rajendra Mal Lodha . Sathasivam has a noticeable vitiligo , which has traditionally been subject to a certain stigma in India .
