Barbara March
Barbara March (born October 9, 1953 in Toronto , Ontario , † August 11, 2019 ) was a Canadian actress . She is known for her role Lursa in the Star Trek universe.
Life
March was a "first generation Canadian". Her parents were from Poland and were among the 10 percent who survived the Siberian gulags during World War II .
March graduated from the University of Windsor with a BFA in acting. She was immediately accepted as an actress, after which she worked for three seasons at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada . From 1980 to 1985 she appeared in major theaters across Canada, where she played roles such as Desdemona in Othello , Jenny in Neil Simons Chapter Two , Ruth in Harold Pinters The Homecoming and Joanna in Noël Cowards Present Laughter . In 1984 she was nominated for the Genie Award in the category Best Actress for her role Val in the film Deserters .
In 1985 she played Isabella in William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and Maria in Twelfth Night for CBC television. In 1986 she went to New York City , where she appeared on Broadway . In 1989 she was invited by Michael Kahn to the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis to play the title role in Webster's The Duchess of Amalfi . She then moved with her family to Los Angeles , where she starred alongside Gwynyth Walsh in the role of the older "Duras sister" Lursa in the television series Starship Enterprise: The Next Century (1991-1994) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) as well as in the movie Star Trek: Gathering of Generations (1994).
March was married to actor Alan Scarfe since August 1979 . Both starred together in several plays and in the films Deserters (1983), Kingsgate (1989) and The Portrait (1992) and had appearances in the television series In the Heat of the Night (1987) and Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century . You have a daughter.
Barbara March died of cancer on August 11, 2019 at the age of 65.
