The PKP class SM25 was a shunting locomotive of the Polish railway PKP .
history
Since 1959 the Polish Railways planned to build a diesel locomotive with a diesel-hydraulic drive . The use of diesel-hydraulic power transmission was already planned for the SN80 railcar, which was developed in parallel. The SM25 series was then produced from 1961 as the first Polish locomotive with hydraulic power transmission. Up to 1963, a total of three copies had been made in the Polish Fablok works in Chrzanów . The production of further locomotives was discontinued in 1963 because there were problems importing the gearboxes from the German company Voith . They received the vehicle numbers SM25-001, SM25-002 and SM25-003.
All three locomotives were stationed in Krakow and used in shunting from there . In 1973 they were retired and parked. SM25-002 was given to the Warsaw Railway Museum and exhibited there.
Structure and technology
A class SM25 locomotive consists of a frame, the attached running gear and the superstructures. The drive consists of three sets of wheels , each with two spoked wheels . The wheel diameter is 1100 mm. The wheel sets are driven by a rod mounted on a jackshaft .
Screw couplings and brake hoses are attached to the front and rear of the locomotive frame. Two buffers and two lanterns are also installed. There are a total of four shunting steps.
The superstructures are attached to the frame. These consist of two front structures and a centrally arranged driver's cab with a driver's cab . This can be entered through two doors arranged on the side. It is equipped according to the latest findings regarding occupational safety and comfort. The diesel engine, the gearbox, the cooling elements, the air compressor and other units are located under the front end . The Wola 1DVSa / 31-350 diesel engine has an output of 257 kW. The power is transmitted with a fluid transmission from the German manufacturer Voith.
The 37 t heavy locomotives are braked with an Oerlikon type brake and a handbrake. The maximum speed is 60 km / h.
