The electric locomotive 242 AE 1 of the Compagnie du chemin de fer Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée , later 2BB2 3201 of the SNCF , was a test locomotive for 1500 V direct current . The locomotive was assigned to the Chambéry depot and was used on the north ramp of the Mont-Cenis Railway before being scrapped in 1967.

technology

PLM 242 AE 1

The car body rests on the two closely coupled bogies and does not absorb any tensile forces. Each running gear is equipped with a PLM type bogie to improve the locomotive's running characteristics. The manufacturer SACM , from which Alstom later emerged, used different drives for the two bogies. One bogie was with a Westinghouse spring drive , the other with a hollow shaft drive with a joint mechanism and a "dancing ring" .
