The PRE-Park is a business park at the northern end of the city of Kaiserslautern in close proximity to the Kaiserslautern motorway triangle . He was masterminded and is now operated by the PRE regional development GmbH ( P fälzische R egional e evelopment), headquartered in Kaiserslautern.

The PRE-Park is the most important conversion project in Kaiserslautern and one of the most important in Rhineland-Palatinate .

History and today's situation

In 1937/38 , the Wehrmacht built the Holtzendorff barracks on the area of today's PRE-Park , which was inaugurated in 1938. After the Second World War , it was taken over by the French armed forces in 1945 . After the turning point in 1989 and the subsequent reunification of Germany , France withdrew its troops from Kaiserslautern in June 1992 and the "Quartier Hoche-Marceau" became the property of the Federal Republic of Germany in the same year.

1997 PRE Regionalentwicklung GmbH acquired the Holtzendorff barracks. The new usage concept of PRE Regionalentwicklung GmbH is based on a complete restructuring and redevelopment of the site.

The approximately 300,000 m² area is now home to around a hundred IT and technology companies with a total of almost 2500 workplaces, a multiplex cinema, a leisure pool, a fitness center, a large furniture store, a fast food restaurant and a large bowling center. At the edge of the PRE Park is a newly created residential area with single, double and terraced houses.

The PRE-Park can be reached from the A6 and A63 autobahns at the Kaiserslautern-Centrum exit (formerly Kaiserslautern-Ost) .

PRE-Uni-Park

In the vicinity of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern , PRE GmbH built a second business park, the so-called PRE-Uni-Park, on the site of the former freight station, which covers around 80,000 m². The sqm with 50,000 geographically largest part by various research institutes like the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics , the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering , the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques , the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems , the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and the Institute for Surface Analysis. A small housing estate and commercial space are also planned.

Expansion areas

To the east of the previous area there are expansion areas on the site of the Quartermaster barracks (Kaiserslautern- Eselsfürth ) to the extent of around 100,000 m². However, it is still unclear whether PRE will develop these areas (currently marketed by the city of Kaiserslautern under the name "Europa-Höhe"), as the city of Kaiserslautern is obliged to carry out a tender for this, the winner of which has not yet been determined.
