Present is a Belgian avant-garde rock group founded in 1979 by Roger Trigaux.

history

Roger Trigaux and Daniel Denis were founding members of Univers Zéro and worked on their first two albums. After Heresie (1979) Trigaux left Univers Zéro in order to realize his compositions with the new band Present. In addition to Daniel Denis, Univers-Zéro member Christian Genet also participated in the early recordings of Present. Present broke up in 1985 after Le poison qui rend fou and reorganized eight years later. The new line-up included Roger's son Réginald Trigaux (guitar), Univers Zéro member Guy Segers (bass), and drummer Dave Kerman from 5uu's, U-Totem, Motor Totemist Guild and Thinking Plague .

Since the mid-1990s, Present occasionally play at the FreakShow Würzburg. The CD LIVE! was recorded there in December 1995. In April 2007 Present played two evenings at the Rock-in-Opposition Festival in Le Garric , France (Cap Découverte / Maison de la Musique), giving a concert for two pianos and percussion in one evening . Ward de Vleeschhouwer, who temporarily played with Aranis , was invited as the second pianist ; the other present members played percussion. Réginald and one other member spoke to the music. The two pieces Souls for Sale and Vertiges appeared in 2009 as video clips on the CD / DVD Barbaro (ma non troppo) . In September 2009 Present played a concert in France together with Univers Zéro, which again took place as part of the Rock-In-Opposition Festival. It was the first time that both bands were on stage together as a large orchestra. The pieces came from the Univers Zéro album Heresie and the Present album Triskaidekaphobie, which were composed jointly by Roger Trigaux and Daniel Denis. In September 2011 the Belgian groups Present, Univers Zéro and Aranis merged to form a 17-piece band called Once Upon a Time in Belgium at the Rock-in-Opposition Festival.

Roger Trigaux is now marked by an illness that affects his motor skills to such an extent that he is dependent on a wheelchair. In the beginning he played less and less guitar, conducted from time to time and mainly played the keyboard. He and Réginald continue to compose pieces for the present. Since Kurt Budé became a permanent member, he and Roger have taken on a management position.

At the RIO Festival 2015 in Carmaux, Liesbeth Lambrecht from Aranis played with Present for the first time.
