Aranis is a Belgian Avant Prog band.

Band history

The band, led by Joris Vanvinckenroye, is in the tradition of Univers Zéro and combines neoclassical chamber music with minimalist rock and jazz . Also Stravinsky , Bartók , Shostakovich , Astor Piazzolla , Gavin Bryars , Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Flat Earth Society are mentioned as influences.

Aranis made their first live appearances in 2002. Her self-titled debut album was recorded and published in 2005, a second album with Bart Maris as a guest musician followed in 2007. For the third album Songs from Mirage three singers were engaged. On the fourth album RoqueForte , the pianist Pierre Chevalier (Univers Zéro, Present ) and Dave Kerman ( Thinking Plague , Present) for the first time had a drummer.

Together with Univers Zéro and Present, Aranis appeared in September 2011 as Once Upon a Time in Belgium at the French Rock-in-Opposition Festival. The fifth album was released in 2012. It is entitled Made in Belgium and contains compositions by Wim Mertens and other Belgian musicians from the AvantProg scene. Trey Gunn was involved as a guest musician.
