Pablo Álvarez Núñez (born May 14, 1980 in Oviedo ) is a Spanish football player who plays for New York City FC in the North American Major League Soccer .

Player career

Born in Asturias, Pablo Álvarez played for CD Lugo in his youth . He started his career with Sporting Gijón in his Asturian homeland. There he was a regular in the Segunda Division for five years before moving to the Galician first division club Deportivo La Coruña in the summer of 2006 . There he could not assert himself, however, and so he came to six missions in his premiere season. In the first half of the 2007/08 season he only played in a single game, so he played on loan at league rivals Racing Santander in the second half of the season . With the Cantabrians he was able to earn a regular place immediately and so he returned to Deportivo after the season. In 2012 he returned to his youth club CDU Lugo in the second Spanish league. On September 2, 2014, he moved to the Spanish third division club UP Langreo , before moving to the US for New York City FC six months later.
