The Galician football selection is the football selection of the autonomous region of Galicia , which is located in northwestern Spain . It is controlled by the Galician Football Association, the "Federación Galega de Fútbol".

As Galicia is officially a Spanish province, the selection team is not recognized by UEFA . It therefore does not play in international competitive games, but only in friendly games. One of the greatest successes was a 3-2 win over the Uruguayan national team in 2005. This game was the Galician team's first game since the 1930s.

Probably the most prominent member of the Galician national team is Míchel Salgado from Real Madrid . Other well-known Galician international players are Ignacio "Nacho" Novo from Glasgow Rangers and Ricardo Cabanas from 1. FC Cologne . However, participation in Galician games does not rule out the possibility of a player playing for another national team, as Cabanas does for Switzerland , for example .
