Pablo Ibáñez Tebar (born August 3, 1981 in Madrigueras ) is a Spanish football player . The central defender played in the Spanish national team for several years .

Athletic career

Club career

Ibáñez was active at the Spanish club Albacete Balompié until 2004 , before moving to Atlético Madrid in 2004 . At the side of Luis Amaranto Perea , he formed the center-back duo of the capital club. Even after the commitment of Tomáš Ujfaluši in the summer of 2008, he still came regularly to season, although he was no longer undisputed under coach Abel Resino . After a new coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, was signed in October 2009, who increasingly relied on Ujfaluši and Juan Gutiérrez Moreno , who joined the club in the summer of 2009 , he hardly got any time. While the team won the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League title, it wasn't even part of the 18-player squad for the final.

In summer 2010 Ibáñez announced his departure from Spain. The English club West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League became a new employer . He stayed there for only one season and moved to Birmingham City in the summer of 2011 .

National team

In the Spanish national team he made his international debut on November 17, 2004 against England (1-0). As a result, he stayed in the circle of the country selection with which he took part in the 2006 World Cup and played three tournament games until he was eliminated in the round of 16 against France . Even after that he was a regular member of the selection, but lost his regular place in the defense during 2007. At the beginning of 2008 still in the squad, Luis Aragonés did not appoint him to the squad for the 2008 European Championship .
