Pablo Mielgo (* 1976 in Madrid ) is a Spanish conductor. Pablo Mielgo has been chief conductor of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears (OSIB) in Palma since 2014 .

biography

Mielgo studied piano, conducting and composition in his hometown of Madrid at the Madrid Royal Conservatory, the Queen Sofía College of Music and at the London Guildhall School of Music . He then assisted James Conlon , Jesús López Cobos , Daniel Barenboim and Claudio Abbado, among others .

Mielgo has appeared internationally as a guest conductor. Among other things, he was a guest at the Wiener Musikverein and the Arena di Verona as well as the Carnegie Hall in New York. He worked in Venezuela with the Orquesta Sinfónica Simon Bolívar and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra . He has a close artistic collaboration with Juan Diego Florez , the Labèque sisters , Pierre-Laurent Aimard , Julian Rachlin and Radovan Vlatkovic .

After Mielgo founded the Orquesta Presjovem in 2000 , he founded the BandArt Orchestra in 2005 under the patronage of Sir Colin Davis . In 2008 the Ibero-American Youth Orchestra was founded and in cooperation with the tenor Juan Diego Floresz of the Harmonia Orchestra .

Pablo Mielgo is dedicated to the musical promotion of socially disadvantaged young people. Since 2005 he has been the artistic and musical director of the SaludArte Foundation. In this context, he initiated several musical events, the artistic direction of which he also took over. These include the España-Venezuela Festival, the Spanish music festival Madrid me sueña , a tour of the Ibero-American Youth Orchestra through Spain and the USA, IberOpera and Live, connecting the world through music . He cooperated with the Teatro Real in Madrid, New World Symphony in Miami, the Venezuelan El Sistema and the Florida Grand Opera , as well as with the artists Placido Domingo , Gustavo Dudamel , José Antonio Abreu and Michael Tilson Thomas .

Since 2011 he has also been the co-artistic director of the Medellin Philharmonic Academy and took over the management of the OSIB in 2014.

In 2017 Mielgo was awarded the Pro Arte y Cultura Prize.
