Pachycereus hollianus is a species of the genus Pachycereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Pachycereus hollianus grows individually or branching out from the base with columnar, gray-green shoots and reaches heights of 4 to 5 meters with a diameter of 5 to 7 centimeters. There are eight to 14 ribs . The three to five central spines, which are enlarged at their base, are initially reddish and later turn gray or black. They are 3 to 10 inches long. The longest of them face downwards. The unevenly long, twelve to 14 reddish radial spines turn gray and reach lengths of 1 to 3 centimeters.

The broadly tubular or bell-shaped flowers appear near the shoot tips and open during the day. They are 7 to 10 centimeters long and 3 to 3.5 centimeters in diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with small, triangular scales as well as white wool and thorn-like hairs . The egg-shaped fruits are reddish and 6 to 8 inches long. They are covered with thorns and white hair and contain a purple-colored pulp .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pachycereus hollianus is distributed in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla at altitudes of 1,500 to 1,800 m. The first description as Cereus hollianus was in 1896 by John Merle Coulter . Franz Buxbaum placed them in the genus Pachycereus in 1961 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
