Pacific Adventurer
The Pacific Adventurer is a Chinese container ship of the shipping company Swire Shipping Ltd . It is 185 m long.
Oil spill
On March 11, 2009, on the voyage from Newcastle to Brisbane , the ship got into Cyclone Hamish , a class 5 tropical cyclone (> 205 km / h). The heavy seas caused the ship to lose 31 containers loaded with ammonium nitrate . When going overboard, 2 fuel tanks of the ship were damaged, so that about 270 tons of heavy oil leaked.
An oil spill developed on the beach south of Cape Moreton . As compensation, 25 million Australian dollars were paid. The sunk containers have been located, but should remain on the seabed. Shipping was stopped to avoid the affected area.
