Padre Burgos is a Filipino municipality in the province of Southern Leyte on the island of Leyte . It has 11,091 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 11 barangays . The municipality is described as partially urban and is located on the west bank of Sogod Bay, approx. 26 km southeast of the provincial capital Maasin City .
Padre Burgos was formerly known as Tamolayag and was part of the Malitbog community . The community was founded on October 23, 1957 and was named after the Filipino national hero Jose Burgos .
