Paganini was a hard rock band founded by the Swiss singer Marc Paganini (actually: Marko Paganini) . The group had a hit in Germany in 1985 with the title Berlin by Night and in 1987 they were engaged as the opening act for Mötley Crüe for their Girls, Girls, Girls tour.

history

Marc Paganini was won over by Barbara Schenker , sister of Scorpions founder Rudolf Schenker , as singer for her band project Viva . Viva consisted of Andy Fach and Ralph Murthy (guitar), Andy Kawaldt (bass), Marc Paganini (vocals), Martin Pietschak (drums) and Barbara Schenker (keyboard). With Viva, Paganini released two albums in 1982 ( What the Hell Is Going On and Dealers of the Night ) before he went to Switzerland with Ralph Murthy and founded the group Paganini.

The band released their debut album entitled Weapon of Love in 1985 on Phonogram . It was recorded in the KARO music studio in Münster and contained a. a. the title Berlin by Night , with which the group had a small hit in Germany. The song was also part of the soundtrack of the German film production company Alpha City . The band's sound has been compared to the early Bon Jovi , Keel or Dokken . The stage costumes for the band were designed by Barbara Schenker.

The follow-up album, It's a Long Way to the Top , was released in 1987. Paganini, however, did not have the success Phonogram had hoped for and lost the record deal with the company.

Detox , the third album released in 1990, was released on the Swiss label Grüezi . It contained, among other things, the title Time , which Prince had given the singer when he visited him earlier in the Paisley Park Studio . The German musician David Hanselmann was also involved in the recordings . The band broke up a little later and was not revived until 2003, when Marc Paganini recorded the album Esoterrorism together with Dale Powers (guitar), Kiki Crétin (bass) and Diego Rapacchietti (drums) , the 2005 Resurrection (German: "Revival") followed. Resurrection contained numerous older pieces that were re-recorded for the album, including Weapon of Love , Bastard , Berlin by Night or the Viva piece Little Rock Tonight .

In 2007 Marc Paganini rejoined Viva, which Barbara Schenker brought back to life. In 2008 the last Paganini album to date, Medicine Man, was released .

On September 15, 2013, founding member Ralph Murthy died of liver failure. On January 12, 2019, it was announced that Marc Paganini had died.
