The Bartolotti-Partenfeld Palace

The Palais of Barons Bartolotti von Partenfeld is a palace in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City, on the corner of Graben and Dorotheergasse . It is the only baroque building that survived the rebuilding of the moat in the 19th century.

history

At this place (Graben 11 / Dorotheergasse 2-4) there have been pharmacies since at least the 14th century . 1454, when the house Vincent Hackenberger belonged, it hosted a conference at which the question of how the Kurpfuscherwesens could suppress, was discussed. Later the building was also owned by the later mayors Wolfgang Treu and Georg Fürst .

In 1704 the house was bought by the imperial court chamber councilors Johann Paul and Johann Carl Bartolotti Freiherren von Partenfeld , who were brothers. In 1720 they applied for permission to build a new building. The design of the palace probably goes back to Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt . What is certain is that it was built by master bricklayer Franz Jänggl . The palace served primarily as a tenement house, which is evident from the lack of a representative vestibule and staircase. Johann Carl Bartolotti was raised to the rank of count in 1729 , but lost large sums of money when the Hauzenberger exchange house collapsed , so that he had to sell a lot of his property. In 1735 the palace was bought by the dealer Matthias Weißenböck, in 1749 it came into the possession of Anna Maria Pilgram, the wife of Franz Anton Pilgram . The Pilgram family remained owners until 1906, when Joseph Prix, who had previously run a fashion boutique there, took possession of it in 1906. In 1967 the ground floor area was renovated.

description

The palace has only four window axes to the moat, the main facade is in the narrow Dorotheergasse, where it has a weak risalit in the middle. The windows on the ground floor are decorated with vaulted stones. There is a statue of the Madonna on the first floor . The courtyard is of Pawlatschen hemmed. Inside there are two stairs, on the left a spiral staircase, both with steps made of the hard Kaisersteinbrucher stone . There is a mirror vault on the first floor . The last floor on the ditch is a later addition, but the roof structure and the chimneys are from the construction period.
