Palais Sina, ca.1874

The Palais Sina , also spelled Sinapalais , was a palace in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City, at 8 Hohen Markt .

history

The Palais Sina was built from 1859 through the renovation of the Palais Fellner and was commissioned by Georg Simon von Sina from the architect Theophil Hansen . Hansen first realized the type of the Viennese Zinspalast in a Graecized neo-renaissance form. This design was adopted from many new buildings in the city.

The entrance hall and some rooms on the upper floors were decorated with frescoes by Karl Rahl and Eduard Bitterlich . The palace was bombed out in 1945; its ruins served as a backdrop for the film The Third Man . This was later torn down and replaced by a simple residential building with shops.
