Palanok (Ukrainian Паланок ; German rarely Plankendorf , Hungarian [Vár-] Palánka ) is a district of Mukachevo in the Transcarpathian Oblast in western Ukraine.
The place was independent until January 11, 1945, was then incorporated due to the growth of the city of Mukachevo and the simpler administration and is named after the castle of the same name, Palanok , around which it is located. It was founded in the 17th century by German soldiers and bricklayers from Bavaria and Austria, who were called into the country by Countess Jelena Zrinski to guard and maintain the castle.
The place therefore had a large German population, which was not expelled even after the Second World War .
