Palatine Bridge (German: Palatine Bridge) is a village in Montgomery County in the state of New York in the United States of America . At the 2010 census, the place had 737 inhabitants. It is located in the western part of the county, west of Amsterdam , directly on the Mohawk River .
history
Palatine Bridge was founded in 1723 by so-called " German Palatines " who came to the USA in 1709 as a result of the mass emigration of the Palatinate people . The name is based on a bridge built in 1798 over the Mohawk River , which connects the place with the opposite city of Canajoharie .
The site has several landmarks that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places :
- the Frey House built in 1808 ,
- the Palatine Bridge Freight House , a historic freight yard , built in the mid-1850s,
- the Webster Wagner House , home of the railway pioneer Webster Wagner (1817–1882).
