Palazzo Ferro Fini is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere of San Marco with a view of the Grand Canal , roughly opposite the Church of Santa Maria della Salute . The palace is the seat of the Regional Parliament of Veneto.

Facade of the Palazzo Manolesso Ferro

The Palazzo Ferro Fini actually consists of two palaces, the Palazzo Flangini Fini and the larger Palazzo Manolesso Ferro . On the way along the Grand Canal towards the San Marco Basin , the palace is on the left after the Palazzo Pisani Gritti , but before the Palazzo Contarini Fasan .

history

The Palazzo Flangini Fini was itself divided into two buildings (a larger one by Contarini and a smaller one by De Ponte ) before the Greek lawyer Tommaso Flangini bought them together in 1638 and entrusted the renovation to the architect Pietro Bettinelli . He left the palace to the Greek community of Venice in his will and in 1662 it was bought by another Greek lawyer, Girolamo Fini , who commissioned the architect Alessandro Tremignon with the standardization of the facade and the completion of the interior.

The Palazzo Manolesso Ferro was bought by the Doge Michele Morosini at the end of the 14th century and in 1740 it fell to the Ferro family and from them by inheritance to the Manolessos . In the 1860s it became the “New York” hotel.

A few decades later, the Ivancich family of shipowners bought both palaces and combined them into a grand hotel, which enjoyed great prestige until the Second World War. In 1972 it passed into the possession of the Veneto region, which had it long and carefully restored.

description

The Palazzo Flangini Fini has an asymmetrical facade of majestic classicism with multiple and single windows on both main floors, which are provided with arches and keystones . The cornices between the floors and the roof line are also relevant .

The facade of the older Palazzo Manolesso Ferro combines different architectural styles: the mezzanine floor shows a triple window in the Renaissance style , on the first main floor there are Gothic windows with three-pass arches , while on the second main floor with round arches one returned to classical elements.

The restoration on behalf of the Veneto Region aimed on the one hand at regaining the original room layout, which had been changed over the centuries depending on the different uses (e.g. the atrium on the ground floor, the hall on the first main floor, the courtyards), on the other hand on the adaptation of the complex to the new function as the seat of the institution.

The interiors of the building are decorated with frescoes , stucco and Murano glass . The ceiling of the office of the President of the Consiglio Regional shows a fresco with a mythological theme by Pietro Liberi .
