Palazzo Grioni , also Palazzo Businello or Palazzo Businello a San Boldo is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the San Polo sestiere with a view of the Rio di San Boldo next to the Ponte Storto . The reverse shows the Campo San Boldo .

history

The Palazzo Grioni was built in the second half of the 16th century as an elegant residence for nobles. In the 19th century it was expanded to include deconsecrated buildings that were left after the San Boldo Church was demolished and made habitable.

Today the palace is a private residence.

description

The Palazzo Grioni shows an architecture typical of the Renaissance ; both facades, the one facing the Rio di San Boldo and the one facing the Campo San Boldo , have five floors, three full floors and a mezzanine above the ground floor and one below the roof. There are Venetian windows on both main floors and individual arched windows on both facades.

A special feature distinguishes the Palazzo Grioni from the other buildings from the 16th century in Venice: In the first years of the 19th century an already existing element was added to the building and then became an integral part of the rear facade. It was the bell tower of the Church of San Boldo , which was demolished at that time. Its bell tower from the 14th century stood in the apse and thus already adjacent to the palace. Today it forms a wing of the building that is just as tall as this one. It is built in brick and has small windows like loopholes .
