Palazzo Nervi-Scattolin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palazzo Nervi-Scattolin is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the San Marco sestiere between Campo San Luca and Campo Daniele Manin . Today the Cassa di Risparmo di Venezia is located there.

history

The previous building from 1883 was intended as the seat of the Cassa di Risparmo di Venezia .

In 1970 this building was replaced by the new palace, which was inaugurated in 1972. This was a very controversial practice that led to a difficult implementation process.

The architects commissioned with the realization of the building were Pier Luigi Nervi and Angelo Scattolin , after whom the palace was named.

description

Exterior

The most important part of the palace is the facade facing Campo Daniele Manin . It shows itself in contrast to the buildings on the other sides of the square. These are kept in pseudo-antique style, which takes up the Venetian Gothic , but date from the 19th century.

The facade of the Palazzo Nervi-Scattolin is very modern and extends over three floors. On the ground floor it has an important bronze gate , the work of the sculptor Simon Benetton , and on the two main floors there is an uninterrupted series of square openings separated by pilasters .

The back of the building faces Campo San Luca . The facade kept the original lines from the 18th century in harmony with the other facades of the square and in interaction with the building parts from the 20th century.

inside rooms

The interior, the result of a dedicated architectural project by Nervi, is primarily characterized by a magnificent spiral staircase made of steel, wood and reinforced concrete. At the bottom of the stairs are two sculptures by Arturo Martini , Agricoltore con spighe (German: farmer with ears of corn) and Ercole con la pelle del leone (German: Hercules with the lion's skin) from 1910.

Many paintings are exhibited in the halls of the palace :

In addition, there are handwritten illuminations and old books in the historical library of the Cassa di Risparmo di Venezia .
