Palazzo Malipiero Trevisan is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Castello sestiere on the southeast side of Campo Santa Maria Formosa and is separated from it by the Rio di Santa Maria Formosa . A small, private bridge provides access from the square.

history

The palace was the home of the Malipiero family until the end of the 15th century, when it fell to the Trevisans via the maternal line . Presumably it was rebuilt in its present form during this time. This conversion has long been attributed to the architect Santo Lombardo , but there is no definite proof of this. Presumably, he was only entrusted with the completion of the decoration.

Over time, the palace was divided into different apartments, in which not only the Trevisans, but also the Diedos , the Bembos and the Zens lived. The famous Fracasso printing house was also located here. Today the building is still divided into different apartments.

description

The facade of the palace in a photo by Paolo Monti (1977)

The symmetrical facade, on which the original cladding with Istrian limestone has been preserved, is typical of the Renaissance .

The building has three floors. There are two arched portals to the water on the ground floor . The two main floors are equally equipped with a quadruple window in the middle with hewn parapets and two single windows on the sides, all with round arches.

To decorate and align the facade parts there are niches and half-reliefs, the latter in Gothic- Byzantine style, as in the neighboring Palazzo Vitturi .

On the second floor there are frescoes from the 18th century in a good state of preservation.
