Palazzo Moro a San Barnaba

Palazzo Moro a San Barnaba , also Palazzo Guoro or Palazzo Barbini-Moro , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere with a view of the Grand Canal between the Palazzetto Stern and the Palazzo Loredan dell'Ambasciatore .

history

The building, which is based on a previous Gothic structure, dates from the first years of the 16th century, but was fundamentally redesigned in the 19th century. The legend has identified this palace as the home of Othello , main character in the tragedy of the same name by William Shakespeare . It is thought that this character is based on the real person of Cristoforo Moro , the later Doge with an unhappy family life .

description

The palace looks noble with a clear, sober, almost minimalist facade for its time without any decorative element. The only valuable elements are the two quadruple windows, look alike, noble with their balconies and their simple, floral elements at the top and at the gaunt portal to the water. Otherwise you can mainly see single windows on the building, with the exception of a few double windows on the side facade, which, if at all possible, appear even bare and more aseptic. The only noteworthy elements are the portal to the water and the double window above.

In the palace there are various small inner courtyards, on the largest of which a triple window opens.
