Palazzo Testa is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Canale di Cannaregio and next to the Palazzo Bonfadini Vivante .

history

The palace was built in the 15th century, but underwent numerous changes between the 16th and 19th centuries. From 1531 to 1748 it belonged to the Testa family , originally from the patriciate of Novara . After the death of Ubaldo Testa , the last offspring of the family, he fell to Count Alessandro di Marsciano , a successor of the previous generation of the Testas. The Palazzo Testa remained in the hands of this family until 1808.

After many other changes of ownership, the province of Veneto bought the property in 1988 and now uses it, together with the adjoining 17th century palace, as the headquarters of the Enrico Fermi technical and technological institute and the Francesco Algarotti technical institute for tourism .

description

The small-scale facade is in the late Gothic style . It extends over two full floors and a mezzanine floor between the ground floor and main floor.

On the main floor there are some valuable windows, all enclosed with keel arches , three passages and marble squares. There are two pairs of single side windows, another side window and in the middle a quadruple window with a balcony from the 15th century, supported by lion protomes . The kymation of the column balustrade with small, Gothic arches is decorated with two marzocchi on the edges and three pine cones on the central pillars.

The mezzanine, on the other hand, has a series of rectangular windows with finely worked frames made of Istrian limestone .
