Pali ( Hindi : पाली , Pālī ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the state of Rajasthan in western India and the administrative seat of the Pali district . It has 230,000 inhabitants (2011 census) and is located in the Marwar region .

The Pratihara , a Rajput dynasty also known as Gurjara-Pratiharas, established the kingdom in Marwar in the 6th century , which is also where Pali was located. In the early 13th century , the Rathor clan fled to the west of the Kannauj kingdom in northern India.
