Paloma Querida

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paloma Querida ( Spanish for beloved Paloma ) is a song probably written in 1949 by the composer José Alfredo Jiménez , which this his girlfriend at the time and later wife Paloma Gálvez (1921-2018), with whom he was married from 1952 until his death in 1973 , has dedicated.

Versions

The song was first recorded in 1952 by Pedro Infante and was heard in the film Ahí viene Martín Corona from the same year in which Pedro Infante played the fictional Mexican folk hero Martín Corona. Three years later, the composer José Alfredo Jiménez sang the song in the 1955 film Camino de Guanajuato , in which he starred with Lola Beltrán . In the version by Antonio Aguilar , the song was later heard again in the 1973 film Valente Quintero .

Other recordings of the song exist, among others, by the well-known Mexican interpreters Alejandro Fernández , Pedro Fernández , Vicente Fernández , Luis Miguel and Jorge Negrete, as well as by the Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo , whose song was accompanied by a video clip.

action

The song praises a man's love for his wife ( Por el día que llegaste a mi vida, Paloma querida, me puse a brindar ; dt. About the day you came into my life, beloved Paloma, I will always to push ) and how this love has transformed his life into a positive, when it says something like : Me habenraste en un negro camino como un peregrino sin rumbo ni fe y la luz de tus ojos divinos cambiaron mi suerte por dicha y placer ; dt. You found me on a dark path like a pilgrim without course and belief and with the light of your divine eyes you have transformed my fate into happiness and joy .
