Jian-Wei Pan

Jian-Wei Pan (潘建伟; born March 11, 1970 in Dongyang , Zhejiang ) is a Chinese quantum physicist at the Chinese University of Science and Technology .

Pan studied at the Chinese University of Science and Technology (USTC), where he received a bachelor's degree in 1992 and a master's degree in 1995. He studied at the University of Innsbruck from 1996 and received his doctorate in 1999 under Anton Zeilinger at the University of Vienna . As a postdoctoral fellow he worked at the University of Heidelberg , where he set up a working group on quantum physics. Since 2008 he has been back at the USTC, where he holds a professorship and is Vice President.

He is known for his work on quantum teleportation , quantum communication and quantum cryptography . According to Google Scholar, Pan has an h-index of 89, according to the Scopus database it has an h-index of 76 (as of April 2020).

Jian-Wei Pan has received numerous awards, including the Sofja Kovalevskaja Prize in 2004 , the International Quantum Communication Award in 2012 , the Newcomb Cleveland Prize (for Satellite-Based Entanglement Distribution Over 1200 kilometers ) in 2018, and the Willis E. Lamb Prize in 2018 , The RW Wood Prize in 2019 and the Zeiss Research Award in 2020 .

He has been a member of the World Academy of Sciences since 2012, a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 2013 and an external member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2016 .
