The Panasonic Lumix DMC G series are mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras with sensors in the Micro Four Thirds standard , which are referred to as digital system cameras .

The first camera housing of the Micro Four Thirds digital camera system was the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 . It was presented in September 2008.

In contrast to digital SLR cameras , the DMC-G1 does not have an optical viewfinder. An electronic viewfinder (EVF) and a 3-inch LC display with rotating and swiveling options and live view are available to the photographer for creating images . Further developments

The Micro Four Thirds -G series of Lumix cameras from Panasonic has been further developed and divided into subgroups:

  • G-Series (since 2008): Models with an electronic viewfinder and ergonomics similar to small SLR cameras.
  • GF series (2011 to 2015): compact models without a built-in viewfinder
  • GH series (since 2010): semi-professional cameras with electronic viewfinder and high-resolution video functions
  • GM series (2013 to 2014): very compact models, on the market since the end of 2013, GM1 without and GM5 with integrated viewfinder
  • GX series (since 2012): relatively compact cameras with good equipment, mostly with an integrated, partially swiveling viewfinder

Four years after the G1 model, the successor model Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 was presented in the G-series and at the Photokina with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 a significantly further developed model, especially with a view to video suitability, was presented again, the 2014 Panasonic Lumix model DMC-GH4 followed. In 2015, the second Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 swivel viewfinder model in the GX series was launched, and in March 2018 the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX9 camera housing .
