The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S system camera housing is a model of the digital, mirrorless Micro-Four-Thirds system . It was launched on the European market at the beginning of 2018 for around 1,850 euros. It is a sister model of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH5 camera body and has half the image resolution as this one.
It is the first mirrorless system camera housing from Panasonic, the image sensor of which is equipped with two analog amplifiers (dual native ISO) for each pixel prior to analog-digital conversion . This technique is said to be particularly advantageous for video recordings in poor and difficult lighting conditions.
technical features
The camera housing of the Panasonic Lumix made of a magnesium alloy is equipped with a swiveling and folding, touch-sensitive display, an electronic viewfinder with diopter compensation , a hot shoe .
In addition to the lenses with a Micro Four Thirds bayonet catch, almost all lenses with a sufficiently large image circle can be connected via lens adapters due to the small flange focal length of 20 millimeters .
The GH5S camera housing works exclusively in live view mode for both still and moving images with manual distance setting with a software magnifying glass or with a versatile autofocus system with contrast measurement that can also recognize faces and track motifs. With the help of the electronic shutter , still pictures can be recorded practically noiselessly.
The camera can be controlled and read out by smartphones , tablet PCs or mobile and stationary computers via a WLAN connection . This is done with an app called Panasonic Image App on an Android or Apple iOS . This makes it possible to view the current viewfinder image on the end device and to control the camera completely from there. The free Lumix Tether software is available for wired remote control with a computer ( tethered shooting ) with the Microsoft Windows and iOS operating systems .
properties
Compared to the sister model Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH5, the GH5S has the following differences:
- Image sensor
- "Multi-Aspect" with the aspect ratios 4: 3, 3: 2, 16: 9, 17: 9
- "Dual Native ISO" (with two amplifiers per pixel with different amplification factors )
- “Low” with exposure indices ISO 160 to ISO 800, expandable up to ISO 80, native sensitivity ISO 400
- "High" with exposure indices ISO 800 to ISO 51200, expandable up to ISO 204800, native sensitivity ISO 2500
- Lower maximum image resolution of 10 megapixels with a correspondingly larger point spacing of 4.7 micrometers
- Raw data with 14 bits per color channel
- No 6K photo mode (with 18 megapixels)
- No stabilized image sensor and therefore also no "'dual IS" (synchronization of the image stabilizers of lenses and camera housing)
- Video recordings
- 4K video recordings at up to 60 frames per second
- Slow motion recordings in Full HD with up to 240 frames per second
- Input and output for time code signals
The following exposure index series shows the same image section with exposure indices between ISO 160 and ISO 51200. With the same f-number , there are therefore different exposure times . With an exposure index of ISO 51200, clear image noise can be seen at full image resolution :
- Exposure index series taken with the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S with an f-number of 5.6 and a focal length of 42.5 mm
