The Panasonic Lumix DC-G9 is a mirrorless system camera housing from Panasonic for the Micro Four Thirds system. It has been available in European stores since the end of December 2017. The model is similar to the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 model , but is designed less for moving images and more for demanding still images and has a larger viewfinder image.
technical features
The splash-proof camera housing has an image sensor with 5-axis image stabilization, which can be synchronized with the image stabilizer of corresponding Panasonic lenses ("Dual IS 2").

As an innovation compared to older Panasonic camera housing models, the G9 has a high-resolution mode with 80 megapixels for taking pictures from a tripod with still subjects. With the help of this high-resolution mode ("pixel shift"), in which the image sensor is shifted slightly between the up to eight consecutive images, the camera housing can record JPEG and raw data images with an image resolution of up to 80 megapixels. The image is assembled from the recorded individual images. There is also an illuminated status display on the top of the housing and two slots for SDXC-UHS-II memory cards on the side . The camera also has a microphone connection and a USB 3 socket.
The camera has aids such as a software magnifying glass , focus peaking , face recognition , electronic spirit level , zebra pattern for overexposed areas of the image and before taking the picture, both on the foldable and swiveling screen and in the electronic viewfinder with a very large viewfinder image in live view mode a histogram for displaying the distribution of brightness values . The touch-sensitive screen can also be operated while using the viewfinder, for example to move the focus field.
The shortest mechanical shutter speed is 1/8000 second, with the (noiseless) electronic shutter it is also possible to set 1/32000 second.
The camera has a function for quick series of still pictures without auto focus tracking and can take 30 single pictures per second in 4K (8 megapixel) and 6K photo mode (18 megapixel).
The G9 has a built wireless module that deals with an app called Panasonic Image App on Android - and Apple iOS - smartphone - or tablet computers can connect. This makes it possible to view the current viewfinder image on the end device and to control the camera completely from there. The free Lumix Tether software is available for remote control with a computer ( tethered shooting ) with the Microsoft Windows and iOS operating systems .
